The Junior/Senior youth co-chair primary responsibility is to make sure that YAC runs smoothly and accomplishes the goals for the year. As facilitators they create the agenda for YAC meetings (with input from others) and keep the YAC meetings organized and on track. The two co-chairs also lead the YAC executive committee. Youth co-chair is a two year job in order to provide continuity year after year. Selected as a junior, a co-chair spends the first year assisting the senior co-chair and working on leadership organization and facilitation skills. By the second year (as senior co-chair) the job also includes a focus on mentorship and fostering leadership skills in other youth.

The Energy Committee Coordinators are youth members of YAC who, supported by adult advisors, monitor the “energy” at conferences and district events. While the community is self regulating (these committee members are not “police”) these individuals have pledged to pay particular attention to our covenant and intentional community, promoting an open, caring, and safe atmosphere and encouraging respect among all members of the community. Using the covenant, the Energy Committee Coordinators deal with problems should they arise during a youth event. Having individuals dedicated to the covenant and “energy” provides an empowering youth led process for community self regulation.

The coordinator runs the newbie meeting (held at the beginning of every con) and they work during each event to make sure that all newbies feel welcome, comfortable and safe in the strange new environment of a con. Remember, you are only a newbie once, so let us make it is the best experience ever!
